Returning home from a birthday celebration at a hotel, a royal family
was shocked to find their bungalow in Section 16 here broken into and
family belongings worth more than RM2mil missing. Also stolen was a
pistol and 62 bullets.
The burglary apparently took place when the family, along with their housekeeper, were away celebrating from 7pm on Tuesday.
Also missing were a special edition collection of currency notes and gold coins issued by Bank Negara, jewellery worth thousands of ringgit, luxury watches and electronic items.
A member of the family celebrating his birthday that day said most of the valuables were taken from a safe inside his room.
“I've been keeping those items for many years,” he said, speaking on the condition that he is not named.
“I am surprised that the safe was not broken into, but actually opened as if someone knew the code number,” he said.
The pensioner said he, five members of his family and the house keeper, returned home around midnight to find the house burgled.
“It was in a mess and three rooms had been ransacked,” he said, when met at his bungalow yesterday.
He said the robbers had gained access by climbing over a back wall and via the kitchen.
While
the house is well-equipped with a security and alarm system, the family
did not activate it as they were only going to be out for a couple of
hours. Even the closed-circuit television camera had no tape.
“According to neighbours, a lorry and three cars were parked outside my house when we were out,” he said.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Arjunaidi Mohammed said no witness had come forward to help in the case so far. Source
